UNION – The McHenry County Historical Society s storied Sampler Lecture Series is back this spring – albeit from a distance. After COVID-related health concerns cut short last year s offering, ongoing safety protocols will necessitate virtual programs when the series kicks off in March. Highland Park s Catherine Lambrecht, who was instrumental in founding the Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance and the Chicago Foodways Roundtable, will present Heirloom Recipes from the Illinois State Fair at 7 p.m. Monday, March 8.

Four-time Grammy Award winner Mac Powell will appear at the Powerlight Fest at the Illinois State Fair Aug. 22.
Powell is the former lead singer of the multi-platinum Christian rock group Third Day, which disbanded in 2018.
Elsewhere, new dates have been announced for several shows at the University of Illinois Springfield Performing Arts Center and country act HARDY ( One Beer ) will headline the Mahomet Music Festival Aug. 27-28.
Third Day, which Powell helped form in 1991, is best known for Christian songs “Alien,” “Sky Falls Down” and “40 Days.” Its hit Nothing At All crossed over into mainstream radio.
Powell has been touring with his band The Family Reunion since the breakup of Third Day.
